Genealogy Guys and Vivid-Pix Announce Unsung Heroes Awards at RootsTech 2020

The Genealogy Guys Podcast, co-hosted by George G. Morgan and Drew Smith, producers of the oldest continually produced genealogy podcast, and Vivid-Pix, makers of RESTORE photo and document restoration software, have today announced the winners in the Unsung Heroes Awards at RootsTech 2020 in Salt Lake City, Utah.

The Unsung Heroes Awards acknowledge and celebrate members of the genealogy community who digitize, index, or transcribe documents of value to genealogical researchers.  The Unsung Heroes Awards is an awards program designed to recognize its recipients in multiple categories.

The winners selected for the award categories are:

·      Individual AwardAmy Hedrick has compiled and published a website about a number of Coastal Georgia counties called http://glynngen.com/. It includes court records, Bibles, cemeteries, African American, family, and other records. She has created and maintains the site at her own expense. Amy is an inspiration for what one individual can accomplish.
·      Society Award Ontario Ancestors – The Ontario Genealogical Society (https://ogs.on.ca/) has been prolifically digitizing and indexing records from unique microfilm collections starting as early as 1750 to the 2000s. These include newspapers, wills, church records, and many more. Their databases include the OGS Huguenot Collection, Upper Canada land petitions, the Ontario Genealogical Society Provincial Index, and more.
·      Library Award The Montana Genealogical Society Library (https://mtsc.ent.sirsi.net/client/en_US/MT-GEN/?dt=list) resides in the Lewis & Clark Library in Helena, Montana. It consists of a moderate-sized collection of materials belonging to the Montana State Genealogical Society (http://montanamsgs.org/). The main library is undergoing remodeling and the genealogical collection will become a security-protected part of the general collection. Through a partnership begun with FamilySearch in 2019, the entire contents of the genealogical collection are being digitized. This will be available at both the library website and FamilySearch. This project is an inspiration to how a library can partner with FamilySearch to make its unique content available to the genealogical community.

The winners will each receive a certificate of recognition, a beautiful custom-made commemorative mug from Vivid-Pix with their choice of one of their own images, and an announcement on an episode of The Genealogy Guys Podcast. Winners will be acknowledged in The Genealogy Guys Blog at http://blog.genealogyguys.com/ and in the Vivid-Pix Unsung Heroes Blog as well. They will also receive a copy of the revolutionary Vivid-Pix RESTORE image-restoration software.

Numerous nominations in each category were received and these will also be considered for future Unsung Heroes Awards. The nomination due date for the next set of awards will be announced soon. Full details and links to the nomination form can be found at

Presentations will be made at the Vivid-Pix booth #533 in the Exhibit Hall at RootsTech and will be announced in advance.

The Genealogy Guys Podcast and Vivid-Pix salute these selfless volunteers whose efforts make invaluable genealogical and historical information available to researchers around the globe. “We Sing Your Praises!”

Announcement of MyHeritage in Color

This press release was just received from MyHeritage, com.
I’m thrilled to share that we have just launched MyHeritage In Color™ — a breakthrough new feature that automatically colorizes your black and white photos in seconds!
Based on deep learning technology, MyHeritage In Color™ brings your family history to life, revealing never-before-seen details — the results will blow you away!
This feature uses the world's most advanced technology for photo colorization, which is available exclusively on MyHeritage and is under license from DeOldify, created by Jason Antic and Dana Kelley. It allows you to do more than look at old photos — it lets you experience them, creating a deeper connection with your family history than you ever thought possible.
Moreover, as part of our commitment to preserving the authenticity of historical documents, colorized photos will appear with a special embossed palette symbol at the bottom left corner of the photo to differentiate them from images photographed originally in color. All original black and white photos will, of course, remain intact and are not changed by the colorization process.
Use our new MyHeritage In Color™ page to upload photos to MyHeritage and colorize them instantly or scan in your photos using MyHeritage’s free mobile app
Please find more information about MyHeritage In Color™ in the:

THE PERFECT VALENTINE’S GIFT – CREATE A VALENTINE’S DAY CARD
FROM RESTORED FADED PHOTOS WITH VIVID-PIX

Patented Vivid-Pix RESTORE Brings Back Lost Memories with AI Restoration Software
For Family Historians, Genealogists, Archivists, Hobbyists, & More

February 4, 2020, Savannah, GA -- Vivid-Pix RESTORE www.vivid-pix.com patented AI software instantly brings treasured memories back to life, creating a fun and easy way to make a Valentine’s Day Card from faded photos. The one-stop solution for family historians, genealogists, archivists, hobbyists and more, Vivid-Pix artificial intelligence software instantly restores decades-old faded photos and documents, including scanned prints, slides, glass plates, tintypes, letters, journals, records, newspaper clippings, family memoirs, holiday cards, and more.

Vivid-Pix RESTORE improves the color and contrast of scanned, faded images and digital photos, as well as scanned records, letters, and documents. The U.S. Patent Office has awarded a patent to Vivid-Pix for the image processing used to improve images for the automatic correction of faded images covering the techniques used in Vivid-Pix RESTORE.

Vivid-Pix is the perfect Valentine’s Day gift. Renowned historian Maureen Taylor, The Photo Detective®, used Vivid-Pix to create a gift from her mother’s faded wedding album. “While all old photo albums fade with age, Mom’s was the worst! – The film processing or printing was done poorly and mom never really enjoyed her wedding album.” Taylor scanned the photos and restored them with Vivid-Pix. “Mom was thrilled,” she said.
