The Unsung Heroes Awards acknowledge and celebrate members of the genealogy community who digitize, index, or transcribe documents of value to genealogical researchers. The Unsung Heroes Awards is an awards program designed to recognize its recipients in multiple categories.
The winners selected for the award categories are:
· Individual Award – Amy Hedrick has compiled and published a website about a number of Coastal Georgia counties called http://glynngen.com/. It includes court records, Bibles, cemeteries, African American, family, and other records. She has created and maintains the site at her own expense. Amy is an inspiration for what one individual can accomplish.
· Society Award – Ontario Ancestors – The Ontario Genealogical Society (https://ogs.on.ca/) has been prolifically digitizing and indexing records from unique microfilm collections starting as early as 1750 to the 2000s. These include newspapers, wills, church records, and many more. Their databases include the OGS Huguenot Collection, Upper Canada land petitions, the Ontario Genealogical Society Provincial Index, and more.
· Library Award – The Montana Genealogical Society Library (https://mtsc.ent.sirsi.net/client/en_US/MT-GEN/?dt=list) resides in the Lewis & Clark Library in Helena, Montana. It consists of a moderate-sized collection of materials belonging to the Montana State Genealogical Society (http://montanamsgs.org/). The main library is undergoing remodeling and the genealogical collection will become a security-protected part of the general collection. Through a partnership begun with FamilySearch in 2019, the entire contents of the genealogical collection are being digitized. This will be available at both the library website and FamilySearch. This project is an inspiration to how a library can partner with FamilySearch to make its unique content available to the genealogical community.
The winners will each receive a certificate of recognition, a beautiful custom-made commemorative mug from Vivid-Pix with their choice of one of their own images, and an announcement on an episode of The Genealogy Guys Podcast. Winners will be acknowledged in The Genealogy Guys Blog at http://blog.genealogyguys.com/ and in the Vivid-Pix Unsung Heroes Blog as well. They will also receive a copy of the revolutionary Vivid-Pix RESTORE image-restoration software.
Numerous nominations in each category were received and these will also be considered for future Unsung Heroes Awards. The nomination due date for the next set of awards will be announced soon. Full details and links to the nomination form can be found at
